Ever heard of the word Expatriate or expats? An expatriate or expat is someone or permanently residing in a country and culture other than that of their upbringing or legal residence. Nowadays, the Australian Expats are making a new meaning not only geographically, but also economically. The term is typically used pertaining to Westerners living in non-Western countries, although it is used to describe Westerners living in other western countries, such as Australians living in the United Kingdom, or Britons living in Spain. Expatriate can just well be used to describe any person living in a country other than where they hold citizenship; however, it is not utilized for government officials that are stationed in a foreign country.

During the later half of the 20th century, expatriation became dominated. This is with professionals being sent by their employers to foreign headquarters or subsidiaries. By the end of the 20th century, globalization paved the way for the global market to open up to skilled professionals. It also leveled the income of skilled professionals in relation to the cost of living. This is also while the income differences between the skilled and unskilled workers greatly vary. Cost of international travel had also become sufficiently low. So if employers don't find the skill they are looking for in a local market, they effectively turn to recruitment on a global scale.

Modern expatriates have now formed a global middle class with shared work experiences in areas in Multi-national Corporations as well as by working or living around global financial and economical centers. Though integration is incomplete; strong cultural influences are still transmitted. Most of the middle class expatriates are re-migrants from emigration movements that are one or two-generations earlier.

Advantages of Australian Expatriations:

? The process where foreigners acquire professional or technical accreditation is generally clearer in Australia.
? Australian employers generally have more familiarity with British work experience as well as qualifications
? There are some cultural similarities with the UK which Canada doesn't have. Examples would be: cricket, rugby, Australian (Ausie) Rules and more.
? The hot climate. Given Australia's huge size, this necessarily is an over-generalization. Their climate can vary from hot and humid throughout the northern tropics. It can also become drizzly, cold or freezing in Tasmania. For the alpine regions of south-eastern Australia, they have a "four-season" climate along with snow during the winter.

? It is feasible to move most electrical goods. Since white goods are of high quality, it may not be worthwhile to bring them. You may need to use a socket/plug adaptor. VCRs and the like may need "chipping". Run through set top boxes may need to be compatible with transmission frequencies. Take note that most migrants choose not to bring TV/VCRs. DVDs are not on a different region code (4) with the UK region (2); however, all can be viewed if you will play them on an Australian player.
? An Australian passport gives you residency rights also to New Zealand.
? Annual leave, on average, is longer in Australia than in Canada.
